Taking Flight: Aerial Yoga

I recently participated in an aerial vinyasa yoga class at OmFactory in NYC. The class, lead by a wonderfully talented instructor Angelina, was a great full sensory experience.

If you're looking to experience moments of full weightlessness, I recommend trying aerial yoga, however if you're working with hip sensitivity, be mindful of the pressure of the aerial drape at the hip for certain poses.

Enjoy the flight!

Live Kirtan!

Krishna Das has recently released a new kirtan CD, called Kirtan Wallah. The CD is a wonderful example of Das' masterful voice in traditional sanskrit language.

Krishna Das is also touring with the release of the new CD. If you would like to experience live kirtan, with call and repeat audience participation, Krishna Das' show will be one to catch. See his tour schedule here, with several shows in NYC coming up in June.

Revolved Triangle Pose

Parivrtta Trikonasana or Revolved Triangle pose, is a posture that opens deeply through the backs of the legs and also massages the internal organs as the spines twists and heart rotates open to the side.

To find this position, we start in traditional triangle (trikonasana) pose. Because this is a twisting variation, your stance may be shorter in the preparation for the twisting variation. Once in your trikonanasa, rotate your heart toward the direction of the floor, as you close your torso, squaring your shoulders toward the floor. Keep your hips squared as you take the arm opposite your front leg to rest on a yoga block on the outside of your front foot, near your ankle, your outer calf, or bring your fingertips or palm to the floor. Rotate your free hand toward the sky and, if comfortable, let your gaze follow.

Crunchy Seitan Burrito

Burritos are a great way to incorporate veggies, beans, rice and other proteins into one dish. This recipe uses a meat substitute, called seitan, as well as lots of crunchy vegetables, in order to create a filling and firm burrito.

-Cook brown rice and set aside.
-In a large pan at medium heat, add 2-3 tsp olive oil. Add garlic to pan and cook for 30 seconds. Add seitan and onion and cook, covered, for 2-3 minutes.
-Add onion, green and red peppers and mushrooms, thyme and habanero pepper to pan and cover. Cook for three minutes.
- Add 1 tsp chile powder, coriander, cumin, and pepper. Mix and cook for another 3 minutes or until vegetables are softened, but still firm. Remove from heat.
